This treatment is mainly used to kill cancer cell that remain after surgery. Hence, radiation therapy is usually done post surgery. For this treatment method the dose of radiation must be strong enough to kill cancer cells.

Furthermore, Chemotherapy is another method used to treat breast cancer. It uses anti-cancer drugs to eliminate cancer cell. Chemotherapy has different types of cycles ; a treatment period for a certain time, followed by recovery period, then another treatment. In breast cancer, chemotherapy is used sometimes to conserve surgery such as mastectomy. It is also given after surgery and may be given every three weeks pr every two weeks in a “dose dense”
