In her memoir

In her memoir, The Complete Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi illustrates her journey with self-discovery from being a confident, albeit naive child, to a confused teenager, before attaining her own self identity as a young woman. God contributes largely during her younger years in shaping her faith and religion, but his presence in the memoir soon deteriorates as time passes and the Iranian Revolution begins to take shape. Satrapi utilizes the continued visual and thematic motif of God to illustrate the universality of coming to terms with religion and the struggles one goes through to achieve this, thus creating a connection and a sense of empathy.
