Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue album is one of, if not the greatest jazz album ever released, and is credited as the album that made people revere Davis as legendary. When listening to the album, one of the first things I couldn’t help take note of was how dreamy it sounded in the beginning, due to how openly Bill Evans had played those first couple of notes. Davis once described Evans’ piano playing as “Crystal notes or sparkling water cascading down a waterfall,” which is the exact feeling we get from his playing in So What. The melodious intro, then answered by the horns that lead the listener into the first solo, where Davis plays with our emotions making you feel everything from happiness to melancholy, all within minutes.
