Slave Narratives are the narratives that are made up of written accounts from slaves. These narratives include day by day experiences and personal stories of how life was like for slaves on these slave plantations. Slaves such as Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, and Olaudah Equiano all wrote slave narratives.
In 1619, the first 20 African slaves were enslaved and brought to the English colony of Jamestown Virginia. Up until 1865 many more Africans were enslaved and brought to English colonies where they were beaten and forced to work on plantations. Many tried to escape from these plantations. Only a few made it out alive. The 13th amendment formally abolished slavery but it didn’t stop slavery from morphing into different ways and definitely did not end racism.
