Theme-based approach is an approach for teaching a range of skills and brainstorm areas around a topic which displays how the brain functions. Theme-based learning is also called topic-based teaching which is one of the approaches with the broader model of content-based instruction. It elucidates how children can know facts and ideas. They get to connect with one another across subjects and they construct meaning out of it.
Theme-based learning or areas around a topic helps learning become more relevant for students. It can also be challenging for educators as teacher need to give bunch of themes for students to choose from. Despite that, it is more interesting to teach and learn by using a theme. Several of activities are integrated around a meaningful content that provides learners with meaningful uses of the language. This is why theme-based learning is very effective. New vocabularies can be learned and can be improved with a view achieving the aim.

Students and teacher can be involved while selecting a theme. Another principle is instruction is focused on primary learning goals. It must reflect learning needs of students. Teacher should use many kinds of instructional activities so that students would not lose their interest if teacher keeps using the same method, students may get bored. Provide children with different sort of resources and teacher should use authentic assessment to check students’ knowledge and how much they had learnt.
Through theme based approach, students will get to know their own strengths, they will find multiple ways to explore learning and brainstorming. They will also use the skills that they have been acquiring through themes. Through skillful planning the curriculum integrates into a framework that helps out students to get introduced to life skills, academic skills, understanding one’s own skills, critical thinking and ample of opportunities which are provided for children to learn social, cognitive, emotional and physical development which are also recognized as valuable assets which are reflected in our curriculum.
According to DAP1, all areas of development and learning are important which indeed they are. For instance, physical, mental, social and emotional are salient, and are closely connected. Children’s development and learning in one area influences them. The prime areas are salient because they lay the foundations for children’s success in all other areas of life, development and learning. Which are quite essential to children’s lives and for their future.
