We would not have technology, creature comforts nor have meaningful relationships. We would merely exist.From the moment a baby is born the communication process starts. A baby cries to convey a message of hunger, illness or soiled diaper, the parent receives this message and attempts to decode it. It is only through time as the baby-parent relationship or interpersonal communication grows does the parent start to recognize the subtle difference in the cry and determines the need. The baby is the sender, the parent is the receiver, the cry is the “message” and the parent’s action the feedback. Communication is a vital aspect of our lives. “What counts is the substance of the communication and the nature of the person doing the communicating-including his or her ability to listen as well as talk” (Bossidy ; Charan, 2002, p. 29). It allows us to build personal and professional relationships and moves in all directions: up, down, side to side moving in and out of our normal groups. Think of communication as a Circus Big Tent, and within the tent are many smaller arenas. The owner represents the politicians who fund and set the overall policies, the tent represents the criminal justice organization and the ring master represents the Department of Justice. Each smaller arena represents one of the many subgroups of the criminal justice organizations such as corrections, law enforcement: city, county, state and federal levels, court system, public, criminals and so on. According to Stohr ; Collins (2014), the purpose of communication is to exchange information through a medium often…Communication can be defined as the transmission of a message from a sender to a receiver in an understandable manner (Sanchez, N, 2009). An example of communication in healthcare is between clinical professionals and staff, patients and their relatives or carers, professionals doctors, occupational therapists, social workers, midwives, physiotherapists and administration staff (Darley, 2002). For their communication to be effective, each of them needs to put the responsibility for clear communication on himself (Healthcare Benchmarks ; Quality Improvement 2009) which means that each of them should endeavour to send clear messages and to receive messages with as little distortion as possible (Mind Tools Ltd, 2009). The NHS believes that effective communication is essential for high quality service and care, and to avoid communication breakdown complaints and problems (Hamilton Mercer, 2009) such as ill informed patients, worried relatives and bad publicity Darley (2002). To avoid communication breakdown, the HPC requires radiographers to be able to use appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication and to use an appropriate interpreter if necessary when communicating with service users and others (Health Professions Council’s (HPC) Standards of Proficiency – Radiographers, 2008). Minardi and Riley (1997) state that it is very important to recognise the communication skills that may improve effectiveness. Verbal and non-verbal communication are the main forms of communication (Cant and Aroni, 2008). Verbal communication is subdivided into the vocal category which includes spoken language, and the non-vocal category which includes written communication and communication conveyed through sign language or Braille (Communication and Language). The HPC requires Radiographers to be able to communicate information, advice, instruction and professional opinion in English (HPC’s Standards of Proficiency – Radiographers, 2008) since it is the main language in the United Kingdom (Mandy Barrow, 2009). For example, when performing an examination, they need to give clear instructions by explaining what they are doing and why they are doing it (Bach and Grant, 2009). If the receiver does not understand English, a good interpreter is needed to avoid misunderstanding. The receiver may also not understand the examiner’s professional language and as Minardi and Riley (1997) point out, the professional should explain technical terms in order to be understood. 
Stephen Covey (1990) recommends “Seek first to understand, then to be understood” (Irmsher, 2000). In order to interact with anyone, teachers, students, community members, family members and stakeholders, one must first understand where the person is coming from. When one listen to a person attentive that gives that person psychological air. Communicating is vital to being an effective educator. We communicate with others both verbally and nonverbal by eye to eye contact, gestures, body languages, and posture. Many problems arise because of poor communication among leaders. Self-awareness builds a positive school environment through effective communication skills by sending direct messages, feedback, and what is being communicated nonverbally (Davies, 2001). The four communication skills that will be analyzed are; active listening, assertive communication, rapport communication, and nonverbal communication. The questions in this chart will be used to analyze five school leaders and five poor communicators in my schools’ district. Communication instrument is a tool used to survey the communication practice within a system or organization. This instrument will determine if feedback is being received and deliver properly. 
Effective communication is essential when working with a client. There are many ways a communication can go wrong. Good communication is a major component of collaboration and collaborating with the client is what a professional should be working towards. The purpose of this discussion is to demonstrate effective communication using one scenario. The scenario, in this case, is as follows: “”Elvita has decided to leave an abusive relationship, but she feels guilty leaving her abuser’s children behind. She talks about how she knows that once she leaves, she cannot have any more contact with the children; and she is worried about how that will affect these children whom she has come to love and wants to protect.” (Summers, 2009, p. 149) Effective communication will be demonstrated by identifying good responses and poor responses, listening and responding, asking questions, bringing up difficult issues, addressing and disarming anger, and the effective combination of skills. Good communication skills are a highly important skill for any professional, especially those who work with directly with clients on a daily basis. Since each client is an individual, the worker may need to approach communication in a different manner. However, there are good ways to respond to a client and there are bad ways to respond to a client. In the scenario, Elvita brings up that she feels guilty leaving her abusers children behind and that once she leaves her contact with the children would be cut off. Furthermore, she is concerned as to how her leaving will affect the children. What if the worker’s response was, “Are you going to stay there and continue to be abused? Introduction Effective leaders understand the importance of strong communication skills. It is imperative for employees to understand the vision of the department or the company, and how they are accountable to the goals, which must be communicated by leadership. It is equally important that leaders ensure the accuracy of the communication they are providing. Leaders must also take into account how their employees receive information and the quality of the message they are sending. In this essay I will share my experiences of ineffective or infrequent communication from my boss. I will analyze how poor communication can be viewed negatively and Finally, I will recommend how leadership can strengthen their communication skills. My Experience My boss is located at our corporate office in Richmond, VA; I live in southern California. We are separated by geography and time zones, which unfortunately affects our communication with one another. We often communicate asynchronously through e-mail, and occasionally through Office Communicator which is an instant messaging tool. We have scheduled one on one time together twice per month, but unfortunately our meetings are often cancelled due to competing priorities. Although I am clear about what my goals are and I do like my boss, I sometimes find myself frustrated, due to her lack of communication. There have been times that she assumes I know something when I do not. She sometimes holds information or deals with situations by avoiding the topic altogether.
